For the first time the illustrations of a Teesside cartoonist whose work featured in some of the country's best known comics will be on display at Redcar's Kirkleatham Museum from Saturday, June 28.
Examples of the late Robert T Nixon's work have formed a new exhibition which has been brought together by his family, including over 32 fantasy and landscape scenes and over 20 illustrated comics.
His daughter Catherine Nixon explained: "It's great to see my father's work in this new exhibition. This is the first time the collection has been open for the public to view and the whole family is really pleased to be able to show the collection in the local area where he grew up and lived."
Robert T Nixon was born in South Bank and moved to Guisborough with his family in the early 1960's. Robert worked as a cartoonist for DC Thomson's of Dundee and Fleetway, the comic division of the International Publishing Corporation.
Robert was a cartoonist for over 35 years, and is best known for his work in the Dandy, Beano, Whoopee, Monster Fun, and Shiver & Shake comics. Most of his work involved 'ghosting' many popular comic characters such as 'Lord Snooty' , 'Roger the Dodger', 'Korky the Cat' and 'Frankie Stein' to which he added his own cuter style.
He also brought to life his own creations, including 'Kid Kong', 'Gums', 'King Arthur and his Frights of the Round Table' and 'Ivy the Terrible'.
